There’s a lot of waste in my practice.  Because of the choices I’ve made about my practice, there is a high rate of failure.  THis was one of the reasons I spent the first few years after I started painting again working only on paper and not canvas which tends to be a lot more expensive.  So, wherever possible, I try to reuse materials by putting them to new purpose. This is a new way for me to do that.  I’ve been collecting failed/unwanted pictures, cropping them down to card-size and them mounting them on cardstock.  I often add some embellishments in the form of additional painting, sometimes embroidery, and sometimes just mount them as is.  It’s really gratifying to find a new life for some of my failures.

But they’re not all failed paintings and drawings.  I made the Affirmations print with the intention of creating art cards out of them, and I suspect there will be a lot more prints made into art cards rather than sold as mounted/matted artwork.
