These drawings came about quite by accident.  I was on a plane to Toronto in 2019 and staring at a blank page in my sketchbook wondering what I should draw.  Nothing came.  I just sat there staring at the blank page getting increasingly anxious.

And then I remembered the lesson my drawing journal had taught me:  “Just make a mark and the rest will follow”.  And so I did and started scrawling all over the page and then thinking “wouldn’t it be interesting of all these scrawls were an explosion originating in a hard-lined object”.  And that’s it… I started working on  variations – dozens of them as it turns out – where an “object” changes from a solid state to something more like a gas.  Sometimes that change happens slowly, like snow in the sunlight turning directly into vapour, and sometimes it happens suddenly, violently, like an explosion.
